SHELL WILL NEVER RETURN TO OGONI - MOSOP

THE Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People has said Shell Petroleum Development Company will not return to Ogoniland for oil exploration.
The Chairman of MOSOP Provisional Council, Prof. Ben Naanen, said this on Sunday while debunking claims that the oil giant was planning to begin oil exploration in Ogoniland.
Operatives of the Joint Military Task Forcehad last Friday dispersed youths who were protesting an alleged plan by the Anglo-Dutch oil company to begin oil exploration at Ebubu Oilfield in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
But Naanen, who spoke in a telephone interview with our correspondent, maintained that it was not possible for thefirm to resume oil exploration in Ogoniland since its licence to operate in the area had been revoked.
Naanen explained that Ogoni people were currently concerned about the clean-up oftheir area that had been affected by environmental degradation.
He said, "I don't think that Shell would be so foolish to think of starting work in Ogoni. The truth is that the company is not coming back to Ogoni. Their licence has been revoked."
